Awareness
Is there an awareness concept and what does awareness mean at krakelee?
Yes! Awareness work and structures are a fundamental part of our collective and our club. We have our own working group for awareness, crew care, and diversity, and we see our awareness structure as an ongoing process.
This is also how our Code of Conduct came about. You can find it here and it breaks down the key points of our understanding of awareness in a compact form.
What happens when I report an incident?
We work in solidarity with those affected, which means that the person affected decides what happens after an incident. We accompany and support this person and can also offer solutions (e.g., mediation, physical separation) or consider them together.
As a rule, we do not make decisions over the head of the person affected. Exceptions are actions that constitute a serious violation of our Code of Conduct (e.g., physical violence) and which must result in an immediate ban from the premises and legal action to ensure the safety of all guests.
If you witness an incident but are not directly involved yourself, we will try to gather the necessary information about the situation in order to better assess the incident and then jointly determine the best course of action based on the facts.
Who can I turn to if I am not feeling well or have experienced or witnessed an abusive situation?Where can I turn if I feel uncomfortable or unsafe?
We have designated awareness officers and/or awareness points that you can contact at any time for immediate support. But you can also always ask for help at the door, cloakroom, and bar. Don't hesitate to ask for support, even if it's more than once!
Is the awareness team also responsible for intoxicated people, and do you also provide PsyCare?
Yes and no! - Of course, you can and should come to the awareness team or the door at any time if you or others are not feeling well, regardless of the reason!
However, dealing with intoxicated people is beyond our capabilities and can overwhelm our awareness structure, so we may need to call in professional help in such cases. We do not offer PsyCare!
I can’t afford the entrance fee. Can I still come?
Yes! Partying shouldn't be a luxury, and we don't want to exclude anyone just because they can't afford to go out and celebrate right now. Send us an email to awareness@krakelee.org and we'll find a solution. You don't have to explain your current (financial) situation!
Is there free drinking water?
Yes! - Access to free drinking water is a human right! You can get free tap water at the bar at any time.
Drinking water from time to time also helps you stay hydrated if you dance a lot or drink alcohol at the same time ;)
Join the crew
How can I join the krakelee crew?
To protect our structure and capacities, we’ve divided our crew onboarding process into phases. If you want to get involved, send us a few lines about who you are and how you’d like to contribute to: info@krakelee.org

Cooperative (Co-op)
Why become a co-op member?
By purchasing at least one co-op share, you become a supporting member of krakelee eG. As a co-op member, you are part of a collectively run organization and help make krakelee club a reality. And at least once a year, there’ll be a party just for our co-op members!
- Bottom-up instead of top-down Founding or supporting a co-op means embracing a critical view of growth, acting for the common good and sustainability - and proving that solidarity-based economics is possible.
- Stable, adaptable, future-oriented, sustainable Investing in a cooperative is a particularly sustainable and future-proof investment. It is not geared towards profit but rather towards sustainable business practices and thus will benefit society as a whole. Those who support krakelee eG are making a lasting commitment to non-commercial culture in Cologne.
- Culture needs urban space As a cooperative club project we shape the city collaboratively and from the bottom up. Supporting krakelee eG means standing against the disappearance of clubs, and for clubs to finally be recognized as cultural spaces deserving their rightful status in public awareness. Culture needs space — right in the heart of the city!
- Cologne needs a diverse club scene Supporting krakelee eG means standing up for the diversity of Cologne’s club culture — and for giving space to unique, unconventional concepts, too.
Here you will find all arguments for why we decided for a co-op structure.
How many cooperative shares can I buy?
You can choose between one and 100 shares. The fixed contribution for one share is €250. Therefore, you can contribute up to €25,000 solely through cooperative shares.
Do I get more voting rights if I own more cooperative shares?
No. The principle of a cooperative is the separation of capital contribution and voting rights. You can subscribe to up to 100 cooperative shares, but you only ever receive one vote. This principle of solidarity distinguishes it from corporations like limited liability companies (GmbHs) or public limited companies (AGs), where more investment leads to more participation and therefore more power.
Should I buy shares or give a loan?
With the purchase of cooperative shares you will become a co-owner of the club and contribute to the formation of equity capital – thus contributing to the stable, communal foundation of our cooperative. Shares have no fixed term, but a two-year notice period applies. They do not accrue interest, but – by resolution of the general meeting – you can participate in profits. However, this is not to be expected in the first few years, as any borrowed capital must first be repaid.
A "Darlehen", on the other hand, is a small-interest loan to the cooperative. It can be for a limited period and can be repaid by us at any time (early repayment). You must also have purchased at least one share for this.
In both cases, repayments are only possible if they do not financially jeopardize the cooperative. In the event of insolvency, bank loans and other liabilities take priority.
The best way you can support us is by purchasing many cooperative sharesbecause they don't incur interest payments and help us become self-sufficient faster. Of course, you can also combine shares and loans.
Member loans
What is a qualified subordinated loan?
A member loan is a sum of money that you , as a member of the co-op, loan to Krakelee eG. It is a so-called qualified subordinated loan which means: we can only make interest and repayments if it doesn't cause us financial difficulties. In the event of insolvency, bank loans would be paid first.
Why only for members?
By law, we can only accept loans from members. Therefore, your membership makes you not just a supporter, but also a part of the cooperative and its decisions.
What are the loan terms and interest rates?
A loan has a flexible term that you can choose yourself, but at least a time span of three years. It will accrue fixed interest at 1% annually. The loan can then be extended or terminated. Repayments are only made if they do not jeopardize the cooperative.
How high is the risk?
A subordinated loan carries the risk of total loss – in a worst-case scenario, your money is subordinate to bank loans. If krakelee eG experiences financial difficulties, the loan may not be repaid after the end of its term (a "qualified" loan).
On the other hand, cooperatives are considered a very safe investment option with high resilience, even in times of crisis. Their internal structure, their integration into regional and social networks, the support of their members, and, last but not least, the regular financial audits by the auditing association result in extremely low insolvency rates: less than 1% of all German cooperatives go bankrupt.
What do I gain from giving a loan?
You enable a self-governed, solidarity-based cultural project, that creates spaces for encounters, music, and political practice – beyond commercial logic. Your money isn't invested for pure profit, but for shared values and vibrant urban development. Thus, it's not just an investment, but an investment in values.
I would like to give a loan. How does that work in practice?
If you would like to provide a loan, please fill out our letter of intent (here) It is non-binding, but it helps us with planning and in discussions with other investors. As soon as we are ready, we will finalize the loan agreement together.
What are the tax implications for me?
The purchase of cooperative shares or the granting of the loan itself has no effect on you; they are tax-neutral. However, the interest earned on the loan is considered income and must be declared in your tax return.
But Inflation?!
We all know that 1% interest doesn't keep pace with inflation. But if it's used to create a wonderful, community-oriented meeting place and cultural hub, then it might be worth so much more to you, the community, and the city. Your contribution is an Investment in community, culture and self-determination – not in capital growth. Together we create spaces that last.
Collective
What do you mean by »left-leaning«?
We are a collective with many perspectives, which means our individual understandings of what it means to be »left« differ — and that’s a good thing! Still, there are fundamental overlaps in our worldviews, which we have outlined in our mission statement.
