Why club as a co-op?

We chose the legal form of a co-operative because it best represents our way of collective work. krakelee sees itself as an urban and cultural-political project that creates spaces for subculture — self-managed, solidarity-based, and non-commercial. Choosing the co-op is no coincidence: it enables shared responsibility for what we build together.

krakelee doesn’t aim to make a profit — our focus is not on financial return, but on social value: fostering culture, diversity, and open spaces in Cologne. To provide this sustainably, we need a stable and financially self-supporting club operation.

Co-ops are known for being stable, adaptable, and future-proof — they protect projects like krakelee from displacement and short-term profit logic. Becoming a member means taking a stand against the decline of clubs and for a vibrant, diverse urban culture.
